I decided to get a case with a fan for my #RaspberryPi
after all. I found a free shipping deal at the same company where I originally bought the Pi, so I got this case for 6.30 €. (No, not Amazon - I don't do Amazon anymore.) I don't usually like to order small time stuff like this, but the desk fan was really no solution.
It seems to be working. I'm currently running the first
on my fresh Ubuntu Server, updating about 170 packages. With the old case, that brought the temperature up to over 50 degrees pretty quickly, and at 60° it would usually crash. Right now, with 99% done, it's only about 45°, and it took at least to about 80% done, until it was even over 40°.
Well, the old case not only didn't have a fan, it didn't have any air holes, either:
In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have bought this "starter kit", but instead bought individual parts. But hey, at the time I didn't have the slightest clue what I was doing.
Also, at a local discounter they had a cheapo wireless mouse and keyboard set for 13 €, so I managed to clear up a little bit of the cable mess, and the keyboard I had was a piece of junk anyway. Now I'm actually highly tempted to put a desktop on there, just to see how it performs with a light-weight desktop on top of Ubuntu. Mate, maybe.
